Defending Your Right to Defend Yourself
VCDL Update 9/10/26
Published 9/10/2026
1. Do you know of anyone being sued under Virginia’s new law that allows frivolous lawsuits against the firearm industry?
1. Do you know of anyone being sued under Virginia’s new law that allows frivolous lawsuits against the firearm industry?
Earlier this year the Virginia General Assembly passed a new law that encourages the filing of frivolous lawsuits against anyone in the firearms industry – anyone from manufacturers to gun stores to holster makers. Doesn’t matter.
The idea is to bankrupt as many companies as possible through the cost of legal defense against a barrage of frivolous civil litigation. Doesn’t matter if those suing lose every single time for their false claims. Their goal is to destroy the firearm industry. This law is pure evil.
Specifically named as someone who can file these lawsuits is our beloved “Attoney” General, Jay Jones. We all know that HE would never abuse such a law, right?
This new Virginia law flies in the face of the Federal protection against just such lawsuits: Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (PLCAA – pronounced “Plack-Ah”).
VCDL will not let such a law stand. But for VCDL to get this law struck down in court we need someone with legal standing - someone being sued under this horrific Virginia law.
If you know such a person or company, please let me know immediately (president@vcdl.org).
Mark your calendars! VCDL’s virtual membership meeting for September will be this Sunday, the 13th, at 8pm.
Board member and firearms attorney John Pierce will be our special guest. John will be talking about the new gun laws, the effects of the recent court rulings, and doing some Q&A. (You can ask questions in the chat.)

Registration and squadding is open for this excellent match, which is held every year by the Roanoke Rifle and Revolver Club to benefit VCDL. RRRC has been a wonderful supporter of VCDL for many years now, with VCDL membership being one of the options to qualify for RRRC membership.
If you have never shot in one of these matches, you are missing out on a lot of fun and some great practice!

Hats off to President Trump for providing unconditional pardons to Tate Adamiak and other gun owners who were targeted by Biden’s weaponized ATF.
Tate was totally railroaded by the ATF and the fact that he was convicted and given a 20-year prison sentence for something that wasn’t a crime (basically possession of legal, demilitarized parts) is a horrific miscarriage of justice. Tate has spent FOUR years in prison! Those in the ATF responsible for this atrocity are the ones who should be in prison.

Another pardon went to an Oklahoma pastor and FFL who was also targeted by Biden’s ATF.

27 states filed amicus briefs supporting gun owners in the Viramontes case. I looked, but Virginia was not on that list. Gee, I’m shocked!
Just kidding. Jay Jones wouldn’t be caught dead supporting the right of Virginians to protect themselves, from, for example, someone wanting to murder them and their children over politics.

I recently bought stock in the company that makes Excedrin, as the gun grabbers must be eating them like candy!
This happened in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Robber ended up at room temperature.
Laws differ. Here in Virginia, to be able to legally shoot that dude holding a knife, either you, or some other innocent person, would have to be in immediate jeopardy of being killed or severely hurt. If the only person being threatened was the bank clerk who was behind the counter and out of reach of the bad guy, then shooting the criminal would not be legal. That said, the details of what transpired inside that bank are not explained in the video.
