WORKING TOGETHER
in 2019 and 2020 the second amendment sanctuary movement swept through virginia. we must make that happen again in 2025-2026
01
check schedules
Check the schedules of your local government body. Review their rules of conduct. Look for designated "Citizens Time" or similar terms.
02
pick the date
Based on the meeting schedules, select a date where you'd like to address the council to ask them to reaffirm their 2A Sanctuary status, or to adopt a resolution.
03
call to action
Send an email to VCDL to let us know the meeting details. Include as much information as you can. We'll put out a Call to Action so people know to attend.
04
make your case
Send a copy of the 2A Sanctuary Resolution linked below to your local Board or Council. Then stand up and publicly (and respectfully) ask them to adopt it.
ask your local government to reaffirm their oath. then ask your sheriff and commonwealth's attorney if they will refuse to enforce unconstitutional 2A restrictions
In 2019 Virginia saw a wave of proposed gun control that would make California blush. Virginians reacted by asking their local governments to do what governments are supposed to do...protect the rights of the people they serve!
People showed up by the thousands at meetings which typically saw 15 or 20 attendees on a good night. The end result was that the vast majority of Virginia localities passed some form of a Second Amendment Sanctuary Resolution.
Sadly, a few of those jurisdictions have forgotten that promise...and forgotten the oath that they swore when they took office. It's time to remind them now, and politely insist that they reaffirm that resolution.
The groundswell movement in 2019 was totally organic. Grassroots activism at work. But we cannot afford to assume that it will happen again on its own. We must have the courage to make a stand and speak out for what we know to be true and important.
Our families rely on us to keep them safe. Our descendants depend on us to preserve the freedoms this country was founded on. We cannot do either if the right to keep and bear arms is restricted to the point of extinction.
Above are four simple steps to take to get this ball rolling. The General Assembly is counting on our inactivity. They are hoping that the restrictions they already passed in 2020 and 2021 have dampened our spirits to the point that we give up. We cannot let them win. Freedom takes maintenance. Are you willing to do what it takes to remain free?
did your locality sign a 2A sanctuary resolution?
Have they lived up to it or have they passed...or even considered...local gun control? Have they lowered CHP fees? Will your local law enforcement refuse to enforce unconstitutional laws passed by a rogue state legislature?
We'll link to a list of the counties and cities who signed resolutions in 2019-2020. A few have, in fact, passed some 2A restrictions. It's not good enough to exempt permit holders. A right is a right, and it applies to everyone unless they abuse that right.
Make the commitment today to take action. We need EVERYONE to participate! This is a multi-faceted game plan. The 2A Sanctuary is part. Lobby Day is part. Writing your Senator and Delegate is a BIG part. Attending committee meetings and/or submitting written comments is a HUGE part.
No war is won on a single battlefield, nor are they won by expecting others to fight on your behalf. VCDL is a true grassroots organization. That means we rely on our members to take action. We know you will step up when we need you!
2a SANCTUARieS as of 2020
Click the locality to view the resolutions. Not all resolutions are created equal! Some have not teeth, others no substance. Words matter. And your local government should act to protect your rights!
