Legislative Schedule

The prefiling dates are as published by the Department of Legislative Services (DLS) and can be found [here]. Session dates are taken from the UVA website and can be found [here]. We will post updates as they become available.


The Virginia General Assembly meets annually, beginning on the second Wednesday in January. In even-numbered years, the session lasts for 60 days, and in odd-numbered years it lasts for 30 days. There is an option to extend annual sessions for a maximum of 30 days.



Date Event

  • Monday, November 17, 2025, Prefiling begins. Bills begin posting to the Legislative Information System
  • Wednesday, November 20, 2025, Virginia State Crime Commission Meeting (Agenda) (View Meeting)
  • Monday, December 1, 2025, All requests for drafts of legislation to be prefiled must be to the Department of Legislative Services (DLS) by 5:00 p.m.
  • Wednesday, December 31, 2025, All drafts of legislation to be prefiled made available for review by midnight
  • Wednesday, January 14, 2026, Prefiling ends at 10:00 a.m.
  • Wednesday, January 14, 2026, Session Convenes. 
  • Monday, January 19, 2026, Lobby Day

  • Tuesday, February 18, 2026, Crossover Day.  All active House Bills move to the Senate, all active Senate bills move to the House
  • Monday, March 9, 2026, last day for any committee actions.  Bills not passed out of committee at this point are dead for the year.
  • Sunday, March 14, 2026, General Assembly adjourns sine die. Any bills that have not passed are dead for the year.
  • April 13, 2026, last day for action on bills by the Governor.
  • April 22, 2026, General Assembly reconvenes to consider the Governor's actions.
