HOW THE NEW LAWS IN 2026 AFFECT YOU
VCDL members are concerned about how the new legislation will affect them, and rightly so. We are offering this guide to help you navigate through the often confusing text of the legislation.
The majority of these laws will take effect on July 1, 2026. However, the prohibition on young adults purchasing handguns and “assault firearms” is already in effect due to an emergency provision when passed.
VCDL is positioning for legal challenges to many of these laws. We will be posting shortly with updates on those. How many we can fight will depend partially on you. Each lawsuit costs tens of thousands of dollars. Your dues and contributions fund these efforts. Please consider joining if you are not a member, and contributing to either VCDL or VCDF, our 501(c)(3) counterpart.
WHAT THE NEW LAWS DO
HOW WILL YOUR LIFE BE AFFECTED?
WE'RE HERE FOR YOU
vcdl is fighting for your rights!
In addition to spelling it all out for you in this document (link), VCDL is already preparing lawsuits to fight this unconstitutional assault on your rights. But we need your help. Click the link below to help fund this battle. Each lawsuit is around $40,000 just to walk in the door! And they can drag on for years. We will be filing for emergency injunctions right away, but we're in it for the long haul as well. Every little bit helps, and no contribution is too small (or too big!). Donating to VCDL helps fund lawsuits, lobbying, and education of the public. Contributing to VCDF, our 501(c)(3) is a qualified charitable donation and also funds lawsuits. If you have employers who match funds, please consider using those matching funds to help defend our rights!
