VCDL UPDATE 10/29/2026
4. Harrisonburg gun show is happening this weekend, but VCDL will NOT have a table there due to timing
One of Virginia’s leading gun controllers in the General Assembly, Senator Louise Lucas (D – Portsmouth) and some of her family members and business associates have been indicted and arrested on a host of serious charges: drug trafficking, money laundering, fraud, and firearms charges. Gee, I know I’m surprised.
No one is above the law, regardless of your age and political status. Lucas will have her day in court, where she will be assumed innocent until proven guilty. However, it will be interesting as she admitted to breaking drug laws on a wiretap.
It is critical that gun owners vote in the midterm elections! Get your friends and family to the polls with you.
And hunters – we need you to do your part! You can still vote early through Saturday and can register at the polls if you are not registered.
It wasn’t clear if Showmasters would have a contract ready in time for this weekend’s gun show in Harrisonburg. They did get the contract, and the show will be happening.
However, with the uncertainty and late contract confirmation, VCDL simply did not have enough time to coordinate volunteers to work a table.
From member Steve D.:
“Richmond Police Department shared that gun thefts from vehicles are down 4% and that the department does give away free gun safes to Richmond residents. Officials added that nearly 700 safes have been distributed since 2023.”
Nothing is “free”, these are paid for by tax payers.
Never the less, VCDL members should benefit from this.
Anyone in need of a gun safe can call the Office of Gun Violence Prevention at 804-516-0451.
The safes seem to be GunVault, which is a good brand. More information here.
Here are two more options if you are considering doing Form 4s or Form 1s and want to have electronic fingerprints:
- From member Tom P.: For electronic fingerprints, Hansohn Brothers will convert a paper card to electronic for $35. ATF will mail you the fingerprint card for free. An ink pad is about $8 on Amazon. Make your own prints, mail the card to Hansohn Brothers, here in Virginia, and they will email you the EFT file.
- From member David P.: If you go here. You can get the fingerprints done for $50 instead of $65 all via the same exact process as described in a previous VCDL alert. Take everything you need to clean the scanner, because in some of the places they aren't all that prepared for the process.
It looks like perhaps the father was carrying with an empty chamber and had to rack the slide to get the gun into commission. If so, that is a very bad idea! That said, it was the last day on Earth for one of the attempted carjackers.
Gun-free school zones are a proven failure, yet Virginia insists on having them.
States, stop letting districts ban guns (Washington Post)
This is a list of gun shows (39) and non-gun-show events (3) since January.
These are all important events for VCDL and we appreciate those of you who have stepped forward to help with the VCDL table! And we also thank our top-notch Gun Show Coordinators, who bring it all together and make it happen!
