1. SMLPSA is having a defensive pistol benefit match for vcdl on july 19th
The Smith Mountain Lake Pistol Shooting Association (SMLPSA) is having a Defensive Pistol match to benefit VCDL on July 19, starting at 10am for session one and 2pm for session two. Location:
W.E. Skelton 4-H Educational Conference Center
775 Hermitage Rd
Wirtz, VA 24184
The match is a defensive pistol “IDPA-style” match. SMLPSA has its own rule book, which is posted online on the registration page. (The rules are very similar to IDPA with a few minor changes: concealment garments are optional; no appendix holsters; all scoring on paper is limited - no make-up shots; and one or two other differences. The goal is to keep the rules simple and keep the stages fun without getting too complicated.)
Match Fee is $30 per shooter with $20 going to VCDL and $10 going to 4H to cover expenses.
There are going to be two sessions, a morning (10am-1pm) and an afternoon (2-5pm). Self-squadding is available on practiscore with a limit of 15 shooters per squad. Online registration is strongly encouraged, and a waitlist will be available. Due to the size of the range and time constraints there will be a limit of 30 shooters per session.
The match will consist of 6 stages. The total round count has yet to be determined but will be close to 100 rounds (it’s recommended to bring 150, but I’m not taking any chances and will bring 200!).
Sportsman’s Warehouse in Roanoke has kindly offered to sponsor the match and will have prizes to give out.

2. thoughts on the universal background check permanent injunction
Some of you have asked why the Superintendent of the Virginia State Police was not charged with contempt of court.
I don’t have an answer for that, but my guess is that the judge might have felt that the Superintendent was given bad legal advice by the Attorney General and cut him some slack. However, the Superintendent is now very much aware of the status of UBCs!
Separately, my guess on why the judge felt that the new prohibition on 18- to 20-year-olds purchasing a handgun anywhere in the state did not fix the UBC law is that denying young adults the right to purchase a handgun is unconstitutional. PERIOD.
The original UBC law did that complete denial by forcing young adults to do a background check at a gun dealer and the gun dealer couldn’t transfer them a handgun under federal law. The gun grabber’s “fix” was to make it impossible for a young adult to purchase a handgun anywhere in the state, which had the same unconstitutional effect as the original UBC law – no handguns for young adults!
3. status of vcdl's awb and aw carry prohibition lawsuit
The VCDL/GOA AWB and AW carry prohibition lawsuit is awaiting a hearing for a temporary injunction to keep those laws from going into effect on July 1. We don’t know yet when that hearing is going to be held.
Regardless of the result of the temporary injunction hearing, we will be headed to a state circuit court at a currently unknown date to get those unconstitutional laws struck down.

9. issue with albemarle county chp application on their website - be careful!
I received this message from a member:
I renewed my carry permit this week, and I noticed that the form on the Albemarle County website has a box (line M – “Are you currently enrolled into the Virginia Voluntary Do Not Sell Firearms List”) pre-checked “Yes,” which would be a disqualification!
I said something when I went to the clerk’s office, and they said they “would look into it”.
Figured this might be of interest.

There are some great photos of recent gun rallies and other things at the end of this article. Hands down, the best gun salespersons are the gun grabbers – when they pass stupid, unconstitutional gun-control laws they become inadvertent gun ownership promoters! Here’s the article:

13. vcdl member's powerful patriotic music video
VCDL certainly has a lot of talented members.
Member Matt Layman sent me this patriotic music video that he created. I think it is outstanding and wanted to share it with all of you as we approach America’s 250th anniversary. Videos like this bring a tear to my eye and remind me just how proud and lucky I am to be an American, the greatest country the world has ever known, and to be a part of a patriotic organization filled with wonderful people:
