vcdl 2026 lobby day wrap-up

VCDL Lobby Day 2026 class photo:

Part of the group at the 2026 Rally

2026 Lobby Day had around 2,000 people in attendance.  There were around 80 or so armed gun owners standing just outside of Capitol Square.

There are videos of Lobby Day coming once they have been edited.

There were no issues and we cleaned up after ourselves when we were done.

A German television crew tagged along with Pat and I during the day.

The invited speakers, in order, were:

  •  Delegate Eric Zehr, who put in four gun-rights bills
  • John Commerford, the NRA-ILA Executive Director
  •  Chris Stone, the GOA Director of State and Local Affairs
  •  John Pierce, VCDL Board member and firearms attorney
  •  Gilbert Ambler, VCDL Board member and firearms attorney
  •  Joe Thomas, radio personality
  •  Brendon Mooney, VCDL Executive member who flies in from Idaho to help with Lobby Day each year
  •  Congressman John McGuire, who has an excellent track record on gun rights
  •  Patricia Webb, VCDL secretary and treasurer
  •  Bruce Jackson, who brought most of the “stuff” for the rally and who coordinated the group photo/video at the end of the rally

There are a lot of people to thank for another successful Lobby Day:

  •  Leyla Myers for arranging the buses and pickup/drop off locations
  •  Pat Webb for an amazing job keeping things moving in all different directions!  No, I have no idea how she can have so many irons in the fire and not lose a few or get burned
  •  Bus Captains:
  •  NoVa Bus: Captain Sameet Singh, and Co-Captain John Higi
  •  SWVA Bus: Captain Scott Koerner, Co-Captain Robert (Bob) Powell, and Co-Captain Rick Courtney
  •  Tidewater Bus: Captain Mike Ferris, Co-captain Eric Dietz, and Co-captain Mark Jordan
  •  Bruce Jackson for bringing down all kinds of equipment and setting the equipment up, like the sound system and the associated UPS.  He is a machine!
  •  Kristi Horton who coordinated the lobby teams.  This is her last year doing so (ugh).  She has always done an outstanding job in that critical area
  •  The VCDL Board of Directors
  •  EM Brendon Mooney for assisting me in whatever I needed to be done.  He made a promise when he left for Idaho some years ago that he would return every Lobby Day and he has kept that promise
  •  Brandon Howard for setting up and running the gun-check bus
  •  Jill McDaniel for running the VCDL Academy table near the gun-check bus
  •  The Capitol Police, the Richmond Police, and the State Police for keeping a watchful eye out for outside troublemakers and their overall professionalism.  I coordinate with those agencies every year
  •  The Virginia Department of General Services for their professionalism
  •  The various armed citizens standing on 9th street, reminding everyone that we have a right to keep and bear arms.

The Richmond Times Dispatch only covered the smaller gun-control rally on Monday and didn’t say a word about the VCDL rally.  Perhaps a better title for that paper would be a “no-news paper,” as they completely missed the bigger story.

Here is coverage of the rally by Richmond Channel 6, which is fairly-well balanced:

I laugh every time I hear “commonsense” and “gun control” in the same sentence!  Oh, and Delegate Hope, “weapons of war” are exactly what the Second Amendment protects.

Better late than never, previous Attorney General Jason Miyares published an opinion just before leaving office that says permits to purchase and “assault weapon” bans are unconstitutional. He’s right:

Mr. Kevin Wallington was recognized and stated that he resides on Century Court in Wytheville. He stated that he is the Chairman for the Wytheville Farmers' Market. Mr. Wallington addressed the Council regarding the comments that have been made about the Wytheville Farmers' Market's request for a Concealed Weapons Policy to be adopted. He noted that the Farmers' Market did not ask for or request a policy regarding concealed weapons. 7. second amendment sanctuary update

Lynchburg City Council to vote on Second Amendment sanctuary status (on January 27)

https://wset.com/newsletter-daily/lynchburg-city-council-virginia-to-vote-on-second-amendment-sanctuary-status-january-2026

Prince George County

Executive member Leyla M. sent me this:

On January 13, 2026, Prince George County Board of Supervisors postponed the vote on a 2A Sanctuary Resolution until the next meeting (January 27). The reason for postponing the vote was the fact that the draft Resolution included some typos and grammatical errors which they Board wanted to be fixed before the vote. One person spoke in favor of the Resolution, and I submitted my comments in favor in writing ahead of the meeting (I was not sure I could make it on time).

The meeting starts at 6:00 p.m., the Public Comment section is at the very beginning of the meeting, the proposed Resolution is further down on the agenda under Order of Business items (item #1).

Location:

3rd Floor Board Room

6602 Courts Drive

Prince George, VA 23875

You can sign up for public comments just prior to the meeting start, join the meeting online, or just be there in person at the start of the public comment period and take your turn making comments. You must be a Prince George resident or own a business in PG, and you must state your name and address. You will have 3 minutes to speak. An organization representative (such as VCDL) has 5 minutes.

15. john farnam: real "citizenship" is poised for a comback!

John Farnam commentary:

911 represents, for most Americans, “the first link in our civilization’s emergency response”

Yet, for most Americans, 911 is their ONLY link to any kind of emergency response!

In most jurisdictions, neither the PD, nor the SO, nor the State Police, nor the FD can be contacted directly. All 911 calls go through a “central dispatch.” This centralized system sometimes has its advantages, but only when your call gets through, and only when there is someone on the end of “911" who will actually answer the phone!

In many jurisdictions, “The System” is badly constipated under certain circumstances (“mass-casualty” events), and predictably congested at certain times of the day/week. “The System” easily becomes overloaded. Emergency calls promptly become backed-up, and you may get nothing more than a pre-recorded message. Sometimes all mobile units are committed, and there is no one to send, even when your call does go through.

Accordingly, every American household should have on-hand: fire extinguishers, guns, trauma kits, a means for rapid, unilateral evacuation.

When 911 operators are not answering your call- when help is NOT on the way and won’t be any time soon- what is your plan?

Marxists (Democrats) in our civilization decry (oh-so piously) “rugged individualism,” “self-sufficiency,” all species of emergency planning on an individual basis.

Ponder the messaging implicit in advice like:

“Run-Hide-Fight,” but never “fight” in any kind of effective way, any way that is likely to keep you alive. Going armed and being in a position to actually “fight” effectively is, to Democrats, unthinkable!

“Don't be a hero,” Funny, this nation was founded, built, and is sustained by genuine heroes, heroes by any definition! Yet, I’m forbidden to ever aspire to be one?

“Never take the law into your own hands.” Yet, the law IS in our hands. Always has been.

“Call the professionals, and never do anything until we get there.” Trouble is, many die waiting, as noted above!

“Curl-up in a ball” A curious “tactic,” unlikely to impress man nor beast!

None of the foregoing “advice” stresses the notion of “Take-Charge Citizenship,” nor any kind of citizenship for that matter.

Perpetually paranoid leftist elites (Democrats) believe (and are terrified by the thought) that they are incessantly surrounded by ‘armed vigilantes,' who do not share their Marxist views, and who can be kept in-check only by stripping them of all privately-owned guns, imposing upon them suffocating regulations and taxation, releasing hordes of violent criminals and illegal aliens to prey upon them, keeping them in continual fear and squalor, and convincing them that they are enduringly feebleminded, helpless, and thus are (and should be) utterly dependent.

Real “citizenship” is poised for a comeback!
