VCDL Update 8/11/26
Daniel Defense, a powerhouse in the firearms industry, donated a portion of their recent Virginia sales to VCDL to help with our legal battles overturning the unconstitutional gun-control laws passed in Virginia this year.
Accordingly, VCDL just received a check from Daniel Defense for $25,000!
Daniel Defense began shipping ARs, etc. back into Virginia on July 21, the moment the temporary injunction went into effect. We need to support companies that support us.

VCDL is going to have a picnic on Sunday, August 16, from 11am to 4pm, with food being served at 1pm. The time was extended to allow those going to church that morning to be able to attend. The picnic is at:

VCDL picnics are always a fun event for the family and are open to the public.
There is no charge to attend, and you don’t have to bring any food. However, if you do wish to bring a dish to share, that would be much appreciated!
VCDL will be supplying hot dogs, hamburgers, buns, and associated fixings. We will also have drinks, chips, paper plates, eating utensils, and some other food items.
We need to have a handle on how many are going to attend and if you are going to bring an optional dish to share.

In the text of the email, give me your name and, if you are bringing a dish to share, what you are bringing. I am trying to avoid duplicate dishes.

As with all VCDL membership meetings, the meeting is open to the public. So, bring your friends and family, too!
We will be discussing all the things going on in Virginia and in the courts that affect your right to keep and bear arms. We also will be doing Q&A.
If you wish to carry, feel free to do so.
If the U.S. Department of Justice does not file an appeal by tomorrow, August 12, the injunction that removes suppressors, short-barreled rifles, short-barreled shotguns, and any-other-weapons from the NFA will be in full force on August 13.
The injunction only applies to gun owners who are members of Gun Owners of America, Gun Owners Foundation, FPC Action Foundation, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms, or the Firearms Regulatory Accountability Coalition, Inc. Purchasing those NFA items from the Silencer Shop, SilencerCo, Palmetto State Armory, and B&T USA also exempts you.

John Correia, with Active Self Protection, does a deep dive on the recent mass murder at an Idaho In-N-Out Burger restaurant. John had an anonymous source give him details on the shooting that helps us better understand how the shooting went down and provides some key lessons from that event.

One of the major lessons is to never carry your self-defense handgun without a round in the chamber! Unbelievably an off-duty trooper had his gun in that mode. The trooper had not drawn his gun as he went to confront the murderer and the trooper was shot in his strong arm, disabling that arm completely (broken bone, artery severed). He drew his gun with his weak hand, but without his other hand, he couldn’t rack the slide to load the gun! As John points out, yes, there are ways to rack a semi-automatic with one hand (catch the rear sight on your belt or the front sight on the heal of your shoe), but that simply didn’t happen under the stress of the situation. The trooper survived because his wife dragged him into his car and headed to a hospital.
If you don’t trust your semi-automatic handgun to have a round in the chamber, then buy a semi-automatic handgun that you can trust or carry a revolver. Counting on having two hands to get your gun running in an emergency is a dangerous bet. Heck, even with two hands, the time and space needed to rack the slide could get you killed.
If you are a member of the Second Amendment Foundation or the Firearms Policy Coalition, you can carry in post offices thanks to a permanent injunction that President Trump’s Department of Justice decided not to appeal.
This happened about a month ago, but with everything going on in Virginia, it wasn’t announced on VA-ALERT, as it fell through the cracks. Thanks to member Peter G. for reminding me about that important injunction.
Dennis Fusaro is running for reelection to the NRA Board of Directors so he can continue to do his part in making positive changes for that important organization.
For Dennis to be on the ballot for next year’s NRA Board election, he needs his petition to be signed by a sufficient number of NRA members.

Mike Beliveau “Duelist1954” passed away from pancreatic cancer on July 29. Mike was a well-known firearm journalist and an early YouTube adopter with a channel on firearms.
