1. PLEASE SHARE THIS MESSAGE WITH THE HUNTING COMMUNITY

Pat Webb posted the message below on some local social media pages and some hunting group pages in her area. VCDL urges you to copy and paste this message, or a similar one, to such groups in your area. We MUST wake up the hunting community, which has historically been less than active in defending the Second Amendment.

I want to make you aware of a threat to our right to own firearms.

The Virginia legislature is currently considering a bill to require a permit to purchase any firearm. This includes your standard hunting shotguns and rifles.

This bill would require you:

to be fingerprinted

to have taken a class with live fire training within the last 2 years. The classes will likely cost hundreds of dollars

to apply for the permit which can take up to 45 days for approval. The permit would have a fee, probably $50. The purchase permit, including fingerprinting, would need to be renewed, probably every 5 years

In addition, a firearm dealer would still need to run the standard background check when you purchase a gun, and there will likely be a 5-day waiting period after the background check is approved!

Delegate Nick Freitas is a powerful orator. It’s a fantastic gift and we will miss him in the General Assembly (he didn’t run for reelection this year).

5. update on jay jones trying to usurp attorney general miyares on ubc case

The Virginia Court of Appeals has given Jay Jones a chance to make a presentation as to why the ruling striking down Universal Background Checks should have its appeal date extended out to the end of January, so he can appeal it after he is sworn in. Our lawyers were also asked to make our counter presentation.

It would be truly shocking and a horrible precedent if Jay Jones were to win on this request. Until he is sworn in, he is just a regular citizen.

We’ll let you know as soon as the court rules on this matter.

7. surprise! another mass shooting in a "gun-free zone"

8. yet another gun-control failure - a mass shooting in australia

The only chance of someone shooting back during a massacre in gun-control heaven of Australia was if the police did so. There were some police on the scene when the shooting started, but the murderers were not engaged for quite a while, as they racked up bodies. There are no carry options for citizens.

The killers used straight-pull bolt-action rifles and pump shotguns. Nothing semi-automatic. The guns were legally owned and registered (more proof that registration doesn’t do anything for reducing crime). Predictably the government is now planning yet more gun control. We know how that will turn out.
