URGENT ACTION ITEM!
THE TOWN OF WYTHEVILLE WILL BE VOTING ON GUN CONTROL ON MONDAY NIGHT!

I wonder if Wytheville was trying to fly this under the radar, as the first notice I got of this was late in the day yesterday.
The Town of Wytheville wants to go “full Fairfax County” and ban guns in government buildings, community and recreation centers, parks, and at permitted, or should have been permitted, events! There is no exception for CHP holders.
The public hearing and the vote are on Monday, October 27, at 6pm.
Location:
Wytheville Municipal Building
150 East Monroe Street
Wytheville, VA 24382
ACTION ITEMS
- Email Town Council via the Town Clerk.
Email address: sherryc@wytheville.org
Suggested subject: OPPOSE Item 11-D!
Sample message (personalize or change it, as you see fit):
I urge Town Council to OPPOSE Item 11-D and honor the RIGHT of citizens to keep and bear arms. Citizens leaving their guns in their vehicles when visiting government buildings, parks, and events benefits only criminals. There isn’t even a provision to exempt concealed handgun permit holders! Disarming me does NOT make me, or anyone else, safer. There is no justification for this ordinance, which does nothing but put good people in danger. Oppose this ordinance! - Call and leave a short message for Town Council saying you oppose gun-control item 11-D. The Council’s general number is (276) 223-3349. The Mayor has her own number: (276) 223-3356.
- Attend the Town Council meeting and speak against the proposed ordinance. If you are a little uneasy with public speaking, just say something short like, “I oppose this measure.” If you are comfortable with public speaking, then explain how this measure affects you and why you oppose it.
I will be emailing the Mayor and each Council member on VCDL’s behalf, as well as leaving phone messages for them.
Here is the proposed ordinance (agenda item 11-D):
Sec. 9-38. Firearms, Ammunition, or Components or Combination Thereof,
Prohibited on Town Owned Property.
(a) It shall be unlawful for any person to possess, carry, or transport any firearms, ammunition, or components or combination thereof (i) in any building, or part thereof, owned or used by the Town of Wytheville, or by any authority or local governmental entity created or controlled by the Town of Wytheville, for governmental purposes; (ii) in any public park owned or operated by the Town of Wytheville, or by any authority or local
governmental entity created or controlled by the Town of Wytheville; (iii) in any recreation or community center facility operated by the Town of Wytheville, or by any authority or local governmental entity created or controlled by the Town of Wytheville; or (iv) in any
public street, road, alley, sidewalk, public right-of-way or any other place of whatever nature that is open to the public and is being used by or is adjacent to a permitted event or an event that would otherwise require a permit.
(b) Nothing in this section shall prevent the Town of Wytheville employees from storing at the workplace a lawfully possessed firearm and ammunition in a locked private motor vehicle.
(c) Nothing in this section shall prohibit a law-enforcement officer, as defined in Va. Code § 9.1-101, from acting within the scope of his duties.
(d) In buildings that are not owned by the Town of Wytheville, or by any authority or local governmental entity created or controlled by the Town of Wytheville, this section shall apply only to the part of the building that is being used for a governmental purpose and when such building, or part thereof, is being used for a governmental purpose.
