Republican Delegate Eric Phillips and Andrew Brown with NRA-ILA will be guests. Republican Senator Mulchi and local sheriffs have been invited.

We will be covering the pending laws and other important 2A items that affect Virginia’s gun owners.

2. RIMINDER: RRPC's VCDL BENEFIT STEEL MATCH IS ON MARCH 23!

The Rivanna Rifle and Pisto Club (Charlottesville area) is graciously holding a Reactive Steel Match to benefit VCDL!

These matches are always a ton of fun. If you haven’t done one yet, what are you waiting for?!

Here is more information and how to register for the match:

Check-in starts at 9 AM at the Pistol Range. Shooters briefing starts at 9:30 at the Pistol Range, and shooting starts immediately thereafter.

This event features four stages with 30 to 35 reactive steel targets per stage. Reactive targets fall or are knocked down when hit, so you get instant gratification and feedback as you shoot.  Bring at least 200 rounds of ammunition to shoot this match.

This event is open to the public.  The match fee is $25, payable by cash or check on the day of the match.  Exact change is greatly appreciated!  All proceeds go to VCDL.

Competition divisions are:

1. Centerfire handguns with iron(open) sights
2. Centerfire handguns with optics
3. Centerfire pistol caliber carbines and braced pistols

Ammo must be common center-fire pistol cartridges (9mm, .40 S&W, .45 ACP), no magnums please.  No steel core or bi-metal ammo is allowed.

Scoring is elapsed time, plus 5 seconds for each target not knocked down. Lowest score wins.

Pistol shooters may start a stage at the low ready or by drawing from a holster. Pistols not drawn from a holster and pistol caliber carbines must be cased until it is your turn to shoot.

This event is run as a cold range, meaning no guns are loaded until the shooter is instructed to load by a safety officer.

Ear and eye protection is mandatory for all, including spectators.

IDPA and USPSA type safety rules and commands will govern this match.

There is a designated safe area to handle your gun or holster up. Match contestants may not handle ammo at the safe area and may not handle their gun in other areas until their turn to shoot.

Rain cancels this event.

8. CONTINUE TO WATCH FOR SCAMS AND BAD INFO ON THE INTERNET

Scams, as well as Artificial Intelligence (AI) being misused to present bad or false information, are out there on the web, so use caution.

There are multiple scams for a “nationwide concealed carry permit.” One shows President Trump supposedly endorsing such a thing.

THERE ARE NO NATIONWIDE CONCEALED CARRY PERMITS. None. If there was one, the seal on it would be a unicorn. But those offering one will be happy to take your money and disappear into the ether.

There is also a lot of bad information on gun laws on YouTube, usually with headlines such as, “Supreme Court Voted 9-0 to change everything you know about gun laws!” and using a realistic-looking AI generated talking head.

When I see such videos, the first thing I look at is WHO is presenting this video. If it’s someone that I am familiar with and trust, then I watch it. For me, I look for people such as (in no particular order):

10. IT'S THE INTENT, NOT THE TOOL USED, AS GERMANY REMINDS US

Ramming a crowd with a vehicle has proven to be a successful technique used to murder and hurt large numbers of people in Europe and even here in the U.S. In one case in Europe, over 80 people were killed and hundreds hurt in seconds when a truck was intentionally plowed into them.

11. VIDEO: BERETTA PISTOL AGAINST RUSSIAN MAKAROV

For those who are either Beretta 92 or Russian Makarov fans, Christian Orr has video of a presentation he made titled, “Beretta Pistol Against Russian Makarov.”

12. QUICK REVIEW: MAGGUTS

Several years ago, I discovered a company, MagGuts, that offers a replacement for the inside of some magazines to increase capacity by two rounds (some by one round) with almost no change in the length of the magazine.

I bought several of them for my 10 and 12-round Sig P365 magazines, turning them into 12 and 14-round magazines, respectively.

Having put thousands of rounds through them, I can say they have worked flawlessly. That said, I have only tested the 10 and 12-round Sig P365 magazine conversions and not the various other brands of magazines MagGuts supports.

How does MagGuts pull off that trick? First, they make a metal follower, so it can be much thinner than the plastic ones it replaces. Second, they use a completely different spring, which compresses tighter.
