1. VCDL President Speaking at 2A Rally in Richmond on Saturday, March 14

I will be a speaker at a Second Amendment rally titled “Rally for Virginia” at 2pm on Saturday, March 14, at the Bell Tower at the Capitol in Richmond (the same location as VCDL’s Lobby Day).

While the General Assembly wraps up business on that day, there will probably be gun bills sitting on the Governor’s desk awaiting either a signature or a veto, so the rally might well have some positive affect.

Thousands are expected to attend, many who simply were not paying attention to what was happening in Richmond until very recently.  As they say, “better late than never.”  Others will be there who have been active, including having attended Lobby Day this year.  It’s too bad that the social media influencers driving this event hadn’t been telling their followers about the looming threat and drove thousands more people to Lobby Day back in January.

I will be encouraging the crowd to join VCDL, get on VA-ALERT, follow us on social media, and TO ATTEND VCDL LOBBY DAY ON JANUARY 18, 2027!

If you can attend, let’s make this rally huge!

Here is a flyer for the event:

TIME TO SUPPORT 2A IN ORANGE!

SHOW UP AT THE ORANGE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS MEETING AND TELL THEM TO REAFFIRM THEIR SUPPORT FOR ORANGE COUNTY’S 2A SANCTUARY STATUS!

Tuesday, February 24
5pm - 7pm

PUBLIC SAFETY BUILDING

Board Meeting Room

ORANGE, VIRGINIA 22960

In 2019 the Orange County Board of Supervisors passed a resolution declaring Orange County a 2A Sanctuary.  In 2026 we have an entirely new set of Supervisors on the Board and in light of the ongoing attacks on 2A rights in Richmond we are asking the Supervisors to REAFFIRM THEIR SUPPORT of ORANGE COUNTY’S 2A SANCTUARY STATUS!

COME TO THE MEETING AND SHOW YOUR SUPPORT FOR THE 2A!

Patrick County

On February 9, the Patrick County Board of Supervisors unanimously voted to reaffirm the County’s status as a 2A Sanctuary.

Also, the Patrick County Sheriff, Daniel M. Smith, hit the ball clean out of the park with this strong statement:

https://www.facebook.com/share/p/17yoM4BFCo/

You know me.

For the past eighteen years, it has been the honor of my life to serve you, my extended family, my fellow Patrick Countians.

On many occasions, you have heard me say that I am fiercely protective of my home, to the point of being somewhat territorial.

My home, my heart and my soul are all Patrick County.

Sadly, our centuries old culture, and our Constitutional right to keep and bear arms, are on the verge of being seriously infringed upon at this very time.

Forty percent of our Commonwealth lies within rural Appalachia.

Patrick County embodies Appalachia, as shown by our neighborly care for one another, our music, our faith, our self-reliance, and our desire to be reasonably left alone.

Gun ownership has been at the very core of the culture in rural Virginia since settlers first landed in Jamestown in 1607.

I would argue that perhaps few other states have gun cultures like our Commonwealth, as we rank first in the nation per capita for the number of registered gun owners.

That makes me proud, and that is uniquely American.

It is my hope, that in the very near future, the Supreme Court of the United States will finally overturn many of these 2nd Amendment infringements already established in other states.

In the meantime, we live in the most beautiful place on the planet.

Keep living your life unchanged, as you and I are in this together.

I have sworn an oath to protect the Constitution of the United States of America five different times, thanks to your trust in me.

My allegiance to that oath is unwavering, and your trust in me will forever be cherished and guarded.

Your Constitutional right to keep and bear arms will never be infringed upon by me or any member of my staff.

I look forward to serving you for many years to come.

Sincerely,

Daniel M. Smith, Sheriff

Patrick County, Virginia

11. By No Means are Firearms the Cause of Violence

From member Clark W.:

Philip,

I was watching the news on TV this morning and was struck by two stories back-to-back of local stabbing murders. In each case, there were multiple victims; the kind of crime that anti-gun people often cite. Except that these violent crimes were committed without the use of guns.

So, I did a little more research. It didn't take long to come up with many violent crimes, often fatal, that didn't involve firearms. I found many more than I have listed below.

These sad and sometimes tragic stories reinforce what ought to be apparent to anyone who is observant and thinking clearly: it's not the guns. Guns don't move people to violence. Violence is its own phenomenon. The presence of a weapon, as such, during acts of violence is practically incidental. Someone intent on committing violence often turns whatever everyday objects are available into weapons or simply doesn't bother to use one.

That fact is brought home especially plainly in the first story I reference below. The attacker, who already had a history of violence, told police years before the actual murder, that "I'm not fit for society if I keep doing s__t like this."

To me, that phrasing is pretty revealing. It appears to say, or at least suggest, that the perp seems to feel he doesn't have control over what he does; as though he's compelled to violence, even though he knows it's wrong: "...IF I keep doing s__t like this." ; as though it's out of his hands; a compulsion. And he killed without using a weapon, not even a makeshift one.

12. GOA Raffle to Raise Money for Lawsuits

GOA has been a strong partner with VCDL in the fight to preserve our rights here in Virginia. They are having a raffle to raise money to fund more lawsuits in Virginia. (VCDL and the VCDF are also fundraising for the same reason and will be doing some online auctions in the next few months).
