"Assault Weapon" Ban Update 7/15/26

Attorney General Jay Jones is requesting that hearings and rulings on each of the four cases brought in Virginia state courts against the “assault weapon” ban (AWB) and carry prohibition be delayed until two weeks after the U.S. Supreme Court has ruled on the two AWB cases to which it has granted cert. That date will probably be in May, June, or July of 2027.

Jones has also withdrawn his request for the Virginia Supreme Court to put a stay on the temporary injunction that was obtained by VCDL/GOA.

It is clear that Jones does not want another legal defeat right now and is trying to delay the AWB rulings for as long as possible.

All the plaintiffs have said “No” to the delay tactic.

Stay tuned…
