TODAY IS LOBBY DAY!

The annual attack on gun shows has begun again with the introduction of SB 595 by Senator Lucas.
SB 595 requires any private sales at gun shows go through a background check. The Virginia State Crime Commission did not recommend this bill when asked last year. This requirement is just the first step in ultimately setting up a private sale registration scheme and it will unnecessarily raise the price of privately sold guns. Few guns used in crimes are purchased at gun shows, so this bill will have no noticeable affect on crime.

VCDL is carefully watching the make up of the Senate Courts of Justice committee now that Senators Cuccinelli and Stolle have been elected to other offices, and Cuccinelli's old seat went from Republican to Democratic.
This is a key committee and the rumor is that Democratic leadership might be looking at some mischief with this committee to ensure that SB 595 gets reported out and pro-gun bills killed.
I will know in the morning as the committee will be meeting at 9 AM.

For those who have Twitter and want to get information "hot off the press," I will be posting information about bills as the bills are heard and voted on in committees and subcommittees over the next two months. If you don't have a Twitter account, don't worry as that information will also be put out on VA-ALERT later that evening so you won't miss anything.
See you at the General Assembly today at 9 AM (8:30 for Team Leaders)!
