Legislative Schedule
The prefiling dates are as published by the Department of Legislative Services (DLS) and can be found [here]. Session dates are taken from the UVA website and can be found [here]. We will post updates as they become available.
The Virginia General Assembly meets annually, beginning on the second Wednesday in January. In even-numbered years, the session lasts for 60 days, and in odd-numbered years it lasts for 30 days. There is an option to extend annual sessions for a maximum of 30 days.

Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2024 Drafts of legislation to be prefiled available for review by midnight
Friday Jan. 3, 2025 All requests for redrafts and corrections for legislation to be prefiled to DLS by 5:00 p.m.
Tuesday, Jan. 7 All drafts of legislation to be prefiled available by noon
Wednesday, Jan. 8 Session convenes, prefiling ends at 10:00 a.m.
Friday, Jan. 10 Last day to submit bills
Tuesday, Feb. 4 Crossover day
Monday, Feb. 17 Last day for committee action on bills
Thursday, Feb. 20 Last day to act on bills
Saturday, Feb. 22 Session adjourns sine die
Monday, Mar. 24 Last day for Governor to act on legislation
Wednesday, Apr. 17 Reconvened session
Monday, July 1 Effective date of enacted legislation
