The Virginia Citizen's Defense League (VCDL) was founded in October 1994 as the Northern Virginia Citizens Defense League (NVCDL). The group experienced enormous growth in membership statewide and was incorporated as VCDL in May of 1998.
VCDL is a non-partisan, grassroots organization dedicated to defending the human
rights of all Virginians and, most importantly, the proposition that
the Right to Keep and Bear Arms is a fundamental Human Right.

The 2008 Legislative Session
The 2008 Legislative Session opens with new leadership in the Senate and anti-gun legislators are rushing to introduce legislation to curtail your rights! VCDL will be there in the General Assembly representing the law-abiding gun owners of Virginia.

VCDL Keeps You Informed!
In an effort to keep all activists informed of the latest information regarding the right to keep and bear arms in the Commonwealth of Virginia, VCDL operates a free Internet mailing list called VA-ALERT.
VA-ALERT has timely information about the current Virginia General Assembly session, pending legislation, local affairs, and important federal alerts.

VCDL vs National Parks Round 2
|
VCDL has presented a **new** Petition for Rule Making (PRM) to the Department of the Interior (DOI)! The PRM asks for a change in the National Park Service's rules which would require that each park assimilate the gun laws of the state where the park is located.
As you might recall, VCDL's original PRM was turned down by the DOI under the flimsiest of grounds, two years after they received the PRM.
The new PRM takes into account the "concerns" that the DOI had with the original PRM and adds new, stronger language with additional justification for the request.
This effort falls on the heels of the letter that 47 US Senators sent to the Department of the Interior requesting that the rules be changed to allow law-abiding citizens to carry in National Parks.
The DOI is now under pressure from at least two different directions to fix the National Park Service's firearm's regulations.
The fight continues!

VCDL License Plates Postponed Until Next Year!!!
Getting VCDL license plates approved has been a royal pain due to twists and turns in the law and how the Transportation Committee processes such requests.
It turns out that contrary to our understanding from DMV, we should have gotten signed applications and checks for the plates before the bill came up.
So, we will ask everyone who wants a plate to send us the signed application with a check in the October, November timeframe this year. Those who have signed up on our web page will get an email when the time comes.
