The Virginia Citizens Defense League (VCDL) was founded in October 1994 as the Northern Virginia Citizens Defense League (NVCDL). The group experienced enormous growth in membership statewide and was incorporated as VCDL in May of 1998.
VCDL is a non-partisan, grassroots organization dedicated to defending the human
rights of all Virginians and, most importantly, the proposition that
the Right to Keep and Bear Arms is a fundamental Human Right.
"[VCDL] campaigns for the right of gun owners to tote firepower in all kinds of places ... including outdoor festivals and college campuses."
The Daily Press - Oct 20, 2007
"Virginia Citizens Defense League . . . is on a mission to root out every nugget of gun control it can detect in Virginia. It has been behind campaigns to make sure concealed weapons are allowed in local government buildings, even civic centers, and fought to open up state and local parks to concealed weapons."
The Daily Press - Nov 27, 2006
"They're pretty effective, I have to give them credit."
Jim Sollo, Chairman of Virginians Against Handgun Violence
Virginian Pilot - Nov 11, 2002

VCDL vs National Parks Round 2
|
VCDL has presented a **new** Petition for Rule Making (PRM) to the Department of the Interior (DOI)! The PRM asks for a change in the National Park Service's rules which would require that each park assimilate the gun laws of the state where the park is located.
As you might recall, VCDL's original PRM was turned down by the DOI under the flimsiest of grounds, two years after they received the PRM.
The new PRM takes into account the "concerns" that the DOI had with the original PRM and adds new, stronger language with additional justification for the request.
This effort falls on the heels of the letter that 47 US Senators sent to the Department of the Interior requesting that the rules be changed to allow law-abiding citizens to carry in National Parks.
The DOI is now under pressure from at least two different directions to fix the National Park Service's firearm's regulations.
The fight continues!

It's Finally Time to Order Your VCDL License Plates!!!
We have finalized our design for the VCDL license plates and are now ready to begin collecting applications and fees so that we will be ready when the 2009 session begins.
If you are still in a position to show your pride as a gun owner and as a member of VCDL by placing a VCDL license plate on one or more of your vehicles, then please follow the steps below as soon as possible.
Step 1
------
Complete and print a DMV application FOR EACH VEHICLE on which you wish to place a VCDL plate.
Application Notes
-------------------
- The fee for the plate will be $10. If the plate will be personalized however, the fee will be $20.
- You will first need to indicate if this will be a new plate or if you intend to transfer your existing plate
- Under TYPE OF PLATE, check Special Interest and indicate "VCDL" as the organization
- If you are ordering or transferring a personalized plate, please note that the proposed VCDL design will only accommodate 6 characters
- If you are going to order a NEW personalized plate, we suggest you go to the DMV web site and see if your letter combination is available. If it is, you may reserve that combination for up to 90 days. It does NOT guarantee that you will get that plate since it will be more than 90 days until we get the plates approved but it will prevent you from asking for a combination that is definitely unavailable. You can check by going to this link. which will bring up an Aviation Enthusiast plate only because it is also limited to 6 letters.
- Even though the application offers the use of credit cards, we ask that you pay via check only please.
- Checks will need to be made payable to VCDL ... NOT to the DMV!
Step 2
-------
Send the completed application, along with your fee of either $10 (regular) or $20 (personalized) to VCDL at:
VCDL
Attn: License Plates
P.O. Box 513
Newington, VA 22122
*** IMPORTANT Reminder: Checks should be made payable to VCDL ***
Step 3
-------
Anxiously await the 2009 General Assembly's approval of our design and the DMV's issuance of your very own VCDL license plate!!!
It has been a long time coming and we truly and deeply appreciate the dedication and patience of our members as we have worked to make this possible!
If you have any questions, please contact VCDL Webmaster John Pierce
