I think it would be good if the Mayor heard from you. Especially those of you from Radford or surrounding areas. But this is OUR state, no matter where you live, so you have a right to let the Mayor know how you feel. Keep in mind that the Mayor may or may NOT have sanctioned that letter from Mr. Lloyd. I'm hoping that he hasn't and will do the right thing. For now, we should give him the benefit of the doubt.

Here is the Mayor's email address:

Suggested email:

Dear Mayor Starnes,

I have just learned that Radford has one or more "No firearms" signs in Wildwood Park and, according to the Assistant City Manager, has no intention of changing the wording on those signs. The City of Radford has NO authority to post such wording or to enforce such a ban under Virginia law. Radford doesn't even have an ordinance in place to backup the "no firearms" policy and cannot legally create such a ban now!

Signs should say what they mean and mean what they say. If I must obey Virginia laws, so must Radford. I ask you to remove any wording banning the lawful carrying or possession of handguns from all signs in Wildwood Park and from any other park or public building owned or controlled by Radford unless such a ban is specifically authorized under Virginia law.

Please let me know what you are going to do.

Sincerely,
[name]

Remember this: even though some of you may not be going to Radford in the near future, we must NOT let ANY locality get away with illegally banning guns. No matter how big or how small. Period.

We will keep you apprised of the situation as it unfolds.
