On October 1, 2000, the Gun Rights Policy Conference (GRPC) passed a resolution (introduced by a VCDL member) calling for a boycott of all Smith & Wesson products.
Attempts were made to water down the resolution for two reasons:
However, the vast majority of attendees refused to be bought by S&W's donation of $5,000 and insisted that S&W be held accountable for their reprehensible action.
The resolution as introduced and passed by the 2000 Gun Rights Policy Conference:
WHEREAS Smith & Wesson deserted its customers and caved in to the wishes of the anti-gun, anti-freedom zealots by agreeing to impose draconian gun control restrictions on S&W dealers, restrictions that the Administration was unable to achieve legislatively;
HEREBY BE IT RESOLVED that ALL Smith & Wesson products shall be boycotted until either Smith & Wesson totally and completely repudiates its infamous agreement with the Administration or S&W goes out of business.
