Former NOVA Jeepers Anti-Gun Policy
VCDL member William Ryan sent me this one, and I was amazed. You don't normally
see outdoors type people being antigun, but he found one while looking for an
off-road club to join.
On their "Membership Code of Responsibilities" page, Bill told me of Rule #4, which reads:
4. Members understand and adhere to the principal that off road driving does not mix with guns, alcohol or drugs.
The alcohol rule is pretty funny, since they have events where alcohol is allowed, see Rule #5:
4. ....No person under the age of twenty-one (21) shall consume alcohol during any Association event.
Also, DON'T TAKE YOUR INSULIN, OR BLOOD PRESSURE MEDICINE! Drugs are not allowed either.
NOR ARE GUNS!
It astounds me that people would go into bear country with no gun! Not me, even though my off road truck is not a soft top!
While trying to get to the bottom of this, I received the following comment as part of a dismissive e-mail:
I do not wish to spend my limited free time in the company of gun carrying individuals.

Well, that IS what he wrote to me in an e-mail.
I suppose that says it all.
Hey Shawn, buddy, I will normally hang out with anybody who goes off road, and I
have spent hours under two different trucks on the shoulder of the Pennsylvania
turnpike who broke down on the way to an event near South Bend, Indiana, but I
can't see a good reason to stop for you if you are broken down!
Then again, I hope you change your mind, and I will wheel with you anytime!
